The Importance of Self Care
We all must take a break now and again to take time for ourselves, time for self-care, and to spend with those we love and doing so does not make us weak but in fact, can make us stronger. How can something that seems as simple as self-care be so hard you might be wondering? This blog post will seek to explain some of the reason why self-care is something that people to do not think about like they should and will attempt to give the readers some new was to think about self-care and means of doing self-care for themselves.
What is Self-care and why is it so hard?
According to the dictionary, Self-care is any necessary human regulatory function which is under individual control, deliberate and self-initiated.
For many including myself self-care is often pretty low on our list of things to do but quite honestly is one of the most important things that we should be doing better and more often. All too often society seems to tell us all that by taking care of mental health, and emotional health is not necessary and that we need just to keep going at full speed instead of taking a step back and seeing how we are doing not only physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. Society paints the idea in our minds that by needing self-care, we are weak and are wrong for thinking that we need a break
but this could not be farther from the truth.
By realizing that our of mental health and or emotional health is not where it could be and by knowing when we just need a break makes us stronger because we realize that there’s something wrong and we take action to fix it before it gets worse. How could this be seen as weak? If someone had a broken leg, they would not just say, “oh well it will get better,” they would go get it fixed, so why should taking time for yourself to fix your mental health be any different. It shouldn’t have to be, and society needs to realize this and quick.
How does one achieve self-care?
The answer is simple you know yourself better than anyone else, you know what you are thinking. You know how you are feeling and when you have had enough and just need a short break from things; and by taking that break and doing something else than the norm like taking a vacation, reading a book or going to the mall with friends you are taking control of your mental health. Thus are archiving a level of self-care. It’s that simple.
So hears to more frequent self-care for all of us and remember that self-care does not make you weak but in fact makes you stronger over time.
