Breakups + Music

Breakups suck right? We invest time and effort into a person and then we feel like it all went to waste in the end. Unpopular opinion: Breakups can be a good thing because it shows us that your significant other is not who you were meant to be with. But, they hurt, yeah? It’s okay to eat a gallon of ice cream and watch John Tucker Must Die. It’s okay to blast “I Don’t F**k With You” by Big Sean out of your car window. It’s okay to delete all those pictures off Instagram. No matter what your breakup ritual is at the end of the day, week, month, or year we know that we will feel better all said and done.

Music is a powerful appeal to our emotions. We play party anthems like “Sicko Mode” or “Mo Bamba.” when we go out on a Friday night. We play fun, bass boosted beats when we are in our happiest mindsets. Sometimes we blast out One Direction, Big Time Rush, or Jonas Brothers when we need a little boy band nostalgia (AKA my guilty pleasure). But what do you listen to when your heart is breaking? Sometimes we need those boy/girl bye songs and sometimes we need the songs that describe exactly what we are feeling at that second. Of course it’s so easy to find sad songs about breakups, but what about the upbeat breakup songs? Music artists have been through the same as us so they give us music we can (most of the time) relate to, especially the post-relationship vibes. Here is a playlist with a 140 songs mixed of all genres for all you heartbroken kids out there that need a some songs when you don’t want to cry anymore.
